Hot Vegan Balls

thh_hotballsit’s gameday. want to bring a dish to spice up the party? something to pair with a cool brew and share with fun friends.

forget the hot wings…we’ve got hot balls!

– ingredients –

  • 2T flax seed meal
  • 4T almond milk, unsweetened
  • 3C cooked quinoa
  • 1 can cannelini beans
  • 1tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 4T vegan butter
  • 1tsp seasoned salt
  • 1/2C Cholula (or hot sauce of choice)
  • 1C panko
  • olive oil


– directions –

  1. combine flax seed meal and almond milk; allow to sit 10 mins
  2. meanwhile cook the quinoa; mash the cannelini beans in a large bowl with the salt and pepper
  3. melt butter in a small bowl while preheating toaster over to 325
  4. mix seasoned salt and Cholula into the melted butter and heat oil in a skillet over med heat
  5. add approx. 4T of the hot sauce, the cooked quinoa, panko, and flax seed mixture into the mashed beans; stir to combine
  6. drop about a Tablespoon of the quinoa mixture into the hot skillet and cook until crisp, then flip, flatten, and brown the other side
  7. allow to cool on a paper towel while you cook the next batch
  8. once cool, roll into balls and warm in toaster over until heated through, adding additional batches as they are complete
  9. once all the balls are warm, toss them gently in the remaining hot sauce and serve to your hot friends with a cold brew!

note: balls can be made ahead of time, then reheated in the toaster oven
